Volunteering & Mentoring
We encourage the young people that we work with to take part in volunteering schemes that are either run by us, or take place in their local communities.
The skills they learn will help set them up for further employment and develops their self-esteem and confidence. We also encourage volunteers or mentors to come and help us in all of our projects, where they will offer vital support, friendship and encouragement to young people searching for housing or employment.
We are also part of the European Volunteering Scheme (EVS) and host a number of volunteers from abroad in our projects across England.
Baseline in Newcastle provides one to one mentoring for young people making the transition to independent living. Trained mentors offer regular support and guidance over a six month period and mentors also offer support to young people on their release from prison.
We also offer mentoring support to young offenders in the London area through our One to One Mentoring scheme. Trained mediatiors provide support and guidance to young people prior to, and after, their release to help them make the difficult transition to independent living. Our One to One Mentoring programme has been accredited for meeting the Approved Provider Standard, a national standard for mentoring and befriending.
