Urban Alternatives - Manchester
This project, funded by v, recruits Peer Youth Workers to positively engage with young people from the alternative community using Manchester City Centre. Manchester's Cathedral Gardens fills with hundreds of young people, mostly from alternative youth cultures, each weekend. The project employs Peer Youth Workers to help generate ideas for positive use of time and to encourage pro-social behaviour and considerate use of the space among the group. Volunteering opportunities are then generated from these ideas. The project also produces a website enabling young people to socialise online, organise events, raise concerns and share information about the issues which matter to them as young city centre users. www.urbanalternatives.org.uk
